The 100-Day Mini-Retirement Trip

A few weeks ago I decided to blog about my 100 Day Mini-Retirement Trip. Well the trip started on October 3rd and today’s the 11th. Hmm. Well, better late than never. ๐Ÿ˜€

You might ask “what’s a mini-retirement?” Simple put my wife and I took a break from working and decided to travel for just over three months. Here’s the kicker, we’re only 51, so it’s not a full retirement just a small one, or a mini-retirement.

I’ve spent the last three years working a full-time day job and during the nights and weekends I worked a side hustle. I didn’t have much of a social life, but hey who did in 2020?

All that hustle with only a few small vacations left me drained. So I decided to travel the world for a bit. Last year my wife and I traveled to Australia and loved it. We didn’t get a chance to visit New Zealand, so we created a plan to rectify that. Now I sit in “10 Forward” on a 48-day cruise to New Zealand. Once there, we’ll spend an additional 8 weeks exploring the north and south islands of New Zealand. Check out this interactive map of our explorations.

As an astute reader you are probably wondering how I did all this and managed to keep my full-time day job and side hustle. In short, I didn’t. I quit my day job back in August and now only work my side hustle. As a software developer I can work anywhere (well, as long as I have internet – which has been challenging on the ship, but that’s for a different post).

Reality can wait, for now I’m a digital nomad roaming around the Pacific Ocean visiting Hawaii, Tahiti, Australia, and New Zealand to name a few. It’s time to tick a few things off my “life experiences” list.
